Men’s brows / BROW JOURNAL
Men's eyebrow tattoo in Seoul: what the first conversation covers
The first conversation covers three things: the look you are afraid of, the look you want, and the hair you already have. On WhatsApp I ask for those in plain words and two photos. In the room we go through the same three in front of the mirror, with a sketch on your brow, and the menu is decided there, together.
The look you fear comes first
I'm Jisun, the owner of London Brow in Seoul. Almost every man starts with what he does not want, and I let him. Dark. Drawn on. Surprised. Too arched. Those fears are the most useful thing in the first message, because they set the limits of the design before I know anything else. If you have a photo of the brow you are afraid of, send it along with the one you like. The gap between the two tells me where you are comfortable.
I usually look at the fear photo first. Most of the time it shows a brow that is too dark rather than too big, and a peak at the arch. That already points to two of the rules I follow for men's brows: a color lighter than any reference, and a straight upper line with no bump.
The look you want, as a shape, not a color
The reference photo you like is used for shape only. I take the line from it and nothing else, because the darkness in a photo is lighting and often editing. Men's brows at London Brow follow a short set of design rules: slightly thicker than I would draw for a woman, by about one to two millimeters; a shorter distance from the arch to the tail; a straight upper line; a lower line that is barely curved; a width that grows a touch toward the tail instead of tapering; and a color that starts lighter than the reference. Those are rules I follow, not measurements I promise. How they land on your face varies by person.
The hair you have
The third thing is the one that decides the most. Send a photo of your brows straight on, in daylight, with no cap and the hairs unbrushed. I look at how much hair there is, which way it grows at the front, the middle and the tail, and where the tail stops. A man with dense hair and a man with almost none can ask for the same reference and get very different designs, because the design is built from the hair that is there. If you wear glasses most days, add a photo with them on.
What happens in the room
In the studio, a 30-second walk from Seolleung Station, it is just the two of us. I work alone, one client at a time, and the conversation is translation-assisted, so short sentences help. We go through your three answers again in front of the mirror. I sketch the line on your brow, you look at it relaxed and with your brows raised, and we adjust. Men's Brow, the menu item for men's brows, is the usual starting point, but the menu is decided together in that conversation. Nothing is promised from the photos alone.
Draft your three answers before you message
Write them down before you open WhatsApp. One: the look you do not want, in a few words. Two: the look you want, with a reference photo for shape. Three: a daylight photo of your own brows. A message as plain as 'I am afraid of a dark, drawn-on look. I like the shape in this photo. Here are my brows' gives me everything the first conversation needs. The rest happens in the mirror.
Before your consultation
- Name the look you are afraid of in a few words, and send that photo too if you have one.
- Choose one reference photo for shape and expect color to be discussed separately.
- Take a straight-on daylight photo of your brows, no cap, hairs unbrushed.
- If you wear glasses most days, add a photo with them on.
Common questions
What do you ask a man before a men's eyebrow tattoo?
Three things: the look you fear, the look you want and the hair you have. The first sets the limits, the second gives me the shape, the third decides most of the design. We repeat all three in the mirror before anything is drawn.
Do I need to know which menu I want before I message?
No. Most men start with Men's Brow, but the menu is decided together in the room after I see your hair. Sending the two photos and your three answers is enough for the first message.
